Snake in the house!?!?

Ok, not exactly IN the house, but it was at the door step!

I grew up here. I’ve seen maybe about 10 snakes in my whole life. I wasn’t particularly scared of snakes, I have just learnt to stay away from one if I see one slithering in the front yard or anywhere in the house compound. Call somebody to help kill it.

But ever since I came back for this visit, I have seen 2 snakes at different encounters. Both times, with Edward, my 2 year-old son. None of those snakes have been killed yet. One snake was seen at my grandparents compound, one at MY DOORSTEP. I gathered all my courage to run to the door and slam it shut. I would rather go near it then than let it come into the house! Can’t imagine!

Our helper spotted the snake as she was about to enter the house with Edward. She screamed and dragged Edward away. Poor baby, sensed something was wrong, he cried and couldn’t stop crying till about 5 minutes later. Partly coz he was dragged with one shoe out of his foot.

Just thinking of all the possible places any snake can hide within this house gives me the shivers! What if it attacks my babies during nap time? What if it attacks at night?! Now I am scared of snakes!

I hope no snakes have made it’s way into our house yet. We have to be mindful to keep all doors shut. Windows are a less worry as we have a mosquito net installed on each of them.

Fingers crossed!

  1. Snakes are freaky…but poisonous insects freak me out more.
